The Science of Hydration — Why Your Body Needs More Water Than You Think

Water is the most underrated performance tool you own. And most of us are running on empty.

What the Research Says

A systematic review of 18 randomized controlled trials published in JAMA Network Open in November 2024, led by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, found that drinking enough water daily can help you lose weight, prevent kidney stones, prevent migraines and headaches, and help control blood glucose levels.

What Dehydration Does to You

Losing as little as 1% to 3% of body weight from fluid loss may affect mood, memory, and concentration, and can increase headaches. Staying hydrated supports overall health, even during mild exertion.

How Much Is Enough?

Most adults need about 11.5 to 15.5 cups of fluid per day depending on their gender, from both food and drinks. Drinking water improves energy levels, helps regulate body temperature, promotes digestion, supports kidney health, and improves skin hydration.

The simplest upgrade you can make to your health is drinking more water. The second simplest is having a bottle you actually want to carry with you everywhere.
